We’ve spent this winter being creative cats in the kitchen at KITTCHEN. With the addition of a tiny oven in our teeny-tiny kitchen, we’ve been modifying, adding (and sampling, of course) a number of recipes to maximise variety and deliciousness of the great local dishes we have to offer. A lot of effort has gone into adding to and improving our vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options and we have a feeling you’re going to love it. Don’t panic though, omnivores! We still have our classic deli boards of local cheeses, pies and charcuterie!
We have all been purring with excitement over the amazing hot food we now offer. KNachos, Baked Houmous, and Baked Camembert, need we say more? The Baked Houmous, served with toasted sea-salt and rosemary sourdough, drizzled with paprika and chilli oil and topped with olives is a fantastic option for vegetarians and vegans. It also happens to be absolutely BANGING, if we may say so ourselves! The KNachos, topped with KITTCHEN bean chilli is served with loads of cheese or vegan cheese, guacamole and sour cream (optional obvs), and has been going down a “reet” treat. They’re perfect for sharing, for a larger appetite, and especially for picking at during our quiz night every Thursday, allowing a spare hand for scrawling answers down! You can even add Cumbrian chorizo for a quid. Don’t say we don’t spoil you! Last but not least, the Baked Camembert, stuffed with garlic and served with fresh baguette and Hawkshead Relish black garlic ketchup, was a half-term hit. It’s another grand vegetarian option but also goes *soooo* well with our Charcuterie board. Best of both worlds, eh?
Another thing we’re buzzing about at KITTCHEN is our homemade soup. We thought it would only be right if our first recipe matched KITTCHEN’s yellow theme, so we chose to go with Roasted Yellow Pepper and Lime. This produced a really delicious, flavoursome, and vibrant looking soup. It is completely vegan, and we are really proud of it. Served with delicious bloomer from Fat Flour, it makes the perfect lunch to warm you up!
We’ve also been perfecting our VEGANAISE recipe over the last couple of weeks and we reckon we’ve cracked it. After taste trials with a number of ingredients, we are very pleased to announce the addition of vegan slaw to our menu.
We couldn’t bear the thought of you cool cats having to suffer without our original deli boards, so we made sure to keep the KITTCHEN classics! The Sharing Deli Board, packed with artisanal Cumbrian cheeses, meats, pickles and pie remains a popular choice and is ideal for sharing between 2 people. If you don’t have a sharing partner, fear not. Smaller boards of the same cheeses, meats or pie are available for individuals. Most of these can be made gluten free and are served with a choice of side salad or vegan slaw.
Everybody has got to have their sweet fix too! Our cakes are baked by the incredible Gillie from Jumping Jenny, and although we often vary our cake selection, we try to always have her gluten free chocolate brownies and vegan Great Taste Award Winning Anzac biscuits to compliment the wider selection.
By the way, did you know we have vegan beer!?
